What are you doing now?
What I'm doing now, is I'm living in Chicago, where it's very, very cold in the winter time, and [being] a motivational speaker. I'm going around the country, pretty much speaking to whoever will listen. That's my new career now, motivational speaker, you can check me out at LevarFisher.com.
Basically, I'm going around the country, I started my own foundation and we're helping out underprivileged kids. They need somebody to motivate them, they need somebody to come speak at the schools and every school can't afford to bring a speaker in like myself so I started my own foundation. We help out with all that stuff, help out kids at different schools, supplying other speakers, as well as myself, and I've been speaking at schools, corporations, foundations, doing a lot of great stuff.
Plus, I'm married to a beautiful woman who does all of my marketing and P.R. so I'm about to do this new reality show with MTV called, "Principal Power," and I'm going to be a behavioral specialist. My career is going well, I can't complain at all, I'm having fun.
Any kids in your marriage?
Two beautiful daughters, a 2-year old and a 6-year old. My 2-year old thinks she runs the house, though, so we got to watch out for that.
What was your career like after NC State?
After N.C. State, I went to the Arizona Cardinals. I was down there for four years then I went to New Orleans. I was down there for a year and then I cried for about one year because I wasn't playing football no more because of all the injuries. Then, I started motivational speaking, I started with a company called Sports World and then I branched off on my own and have been doing it ever since.
What was it like playing professional football? How did it compare to college?
It wasn't as fun as college, the fans, the atmosphere, the coaching. When you're up there, you're up there to do a job and they expect you to do it well. It's all about staying healthy and, unfortunately, I wasn't able to stay as healthy as long as I wanted to but I made it there, had a great career, and I don't regret any of it.
Looking back on your pro career, who was the hardest guy to tackle?
Oh man, LaDainian Tomlinson was the hardest guy ever. I was catching air when I tried to catch that guy. And the big boy from the Giants, Brandon Jacobs. Big boy, on my God, hitting him would send a stinger down your whole body. Oh, and Jerome Bettis. I knocked Jerome Bettis out, that was one of the biggest hits I ever had. I always pick on him if I'm fortunate enough to see him out. I played against some great people.
What stays with you from your time at NC State? Any great memories?
Every time I come back here the memories [come back]. I had a lot of great games in this stadium and, unfortunately, it wasn't as pretty as it is now, but I had some great, great memories here at State. I guess one of the biggest memories is when we played Georgia Tech when I hit, I think, Joe Burns on the goal line and we picked it up and got into the end zone. It was just a big team effort when we beat Georgia Tech, so it was just fun, that was one of the biggest memories I have.
Do you have many opportunities to come back to NC State?
Well I came last year but I couldn't stay for the game. I'm so busy flying in and out of towns, my schedule is hectic, but now I hired a management group and I got a hold of things now. I kind of settled down and am setting my own schedule now. I do get to State often, my parents live about three and a half hours east of [Raleigh] so I try to get home once a month. I get back pretty often.
