NC State senior tackle signee Gabriel Gonzalez of Mebane (N.C.) Eastern Alamance was able to see what he needs to work on during the Carolinas Shrine Bowl on Dec. 16.
The 6-foot-5, 276-pound Gonzalez, who Rivals.com ranks No. 45 overall in the state of North Carolina in the class of 2018, split time at right tackle for the North Carolina squad. He helped pave the way in the ground game but did have trouble in pass blocking in North Carolina's 55-24 win over South Carolina. Speed rusher Tre’Marcus Moore of Johnson (S.C.) Strom Thurmand High was able to get a pair of sacks on back-to-back plays.
NC State was his first Power Five Conference offer, and he picked the Wolfpack on June 24 over eventual offers from Duke, East Carolina, Minnesota, Purdue, Virginia Tech, Wake Forest and West Virginia, among others. NC State co-defensive coordinator and linebackers coach Dave Huxtable was the point man on the recruitment.
