We conducted a poll on Twitter last week to have fans weigh-in on their three favorite offensive players in NC State football history.
The unorthodox poll was done in spirit of a social media trend that went viral mostly due to the COVID-19 pandemic. More or less a conversational ice breaker, a picture of nine premium options was provided and users were asked to pick three.
Since the vote for offensive football players was so strong, we decided to make two more polls for basketball and for defensive football players. We'll release the hoops players results tomorrow.
For defensive football players, the rows were divided by position group. The idea was to pick the best from each group which included three linemen, three linebackers and three defensive backs:
Linemen: Dennis Byrd, Mario Williams, Bradley Chubb
Linebackers: Bill Cowher, Levar Fisher, Nate Irving
Defensive backs: Eric Williams, Earl Wolff, David Amerson
Irving seemed to approve of the list:
Another selection on the list, NFL free agent Wolff, replied with some complimentary words about his former teammate’s game:
Ultimately there was less agreement among votes for the best three on the list of defensive football players. However, Mario Williams, Chubb and Irving trended toward the top.
