NC State lands commitment from linebacker Jaylon Scott
NC State’s fourth verbal commitment for the 2019 class comes from three-star linebacker Jaylon Scott of Shelby (N.C.) High.
The 6-foot-2, 230-pounder is rated the No. 30 outside linebacker in the country and No. 20 rising senior in the state of North Carolina by Rivals.com. As a junior, he had 85 tackles, including 20 for loss and five sacks, while forcing three fumbles, recovering a pair of fumbles, blocking two punts and intercepting a pass for a Shelby team that went 12-3 and reached the 2-AA state semifinals.
The year before, Scott had 51 tackles, including 11 for loss and five sacks, while helping Shelby go a perfect 16-0 and defend its state crown. He also intercepted three passes, one of which he returned for a score, and forced two fumbles and blocked a pair of kicks.
During the recruiting process, Scott had offers from Clemson, Colorado, Duke, Maryland, North Carolina, Syracuse and West Virginia. He had named a top four earlier in the spring of Clemson, Duke, NCSU and UNC.
Offensive line coach Dwayne Ledford and linebackers coach/defensive coordinator Dave Huxtable led the way for NC State in getting Scott’s commitment.
He joins fellow in-state products defensive back Jalen Frazier from Hough High in Cornelius, offensive lineman Timothy McKay from Wakefield High in Raleigh and receiver Chris Toudle from Hoggard High in Wilmington. All of them are rated three stars by Rivals.com.
