NC State senior defensive end Bradley Chubb's decision to return for his senior season continues to pay off.

He was named the winner of the 2017 Bronko Nagurski Trophy, which is presented annually to the nation's top defensive player by the Football Writers Association of America and the Charlotte Touchdown Club.

The award was announced Monday night.

“Little surreal moment just knowing the people who won this award in the past,” Chubb said Monday to the Charlotte Observer. “But it’s definitely an honor to be here and I’m excited.”

Chubb leads the Football Bowl Subdivision in tackles for losses with 23.5 this season. He also has 10 sacks (tied for seventh nationally) to go along with 72 total tackles. He was also credited with nine quarterback hurries, three forced fumbles, two passes broken up and a blocked kick.

The senior will leave Raleigh as NC State's all-time leader in sacks (currently has 26) and tackles for loss (60), breaking former No. 1 overall NFL Draft pick Mario Williams' records.

The Nagurski Award is the latest hardware for Chubb, who also picked up ACC Defensive Player of the Year honors and was the top defensive vote-getter on the All-ACC squad last week.

On Wednesday, he added the Ted Hendricks Award for the nation's best defensive end.
