NC State senior defensive end Bradley Chubb became the second player in school history to be named the ACC defensive player of the year.
Seven defensive players received votes, but Chubb led the way with 45. He joined former linebacker Levar Fisher, who won the honor in 2000.
The 6-foot-4, 275-pound Chubb leads the ACC with 26 tackles for loss and 10 sacks, to go along with having 73 tackles, two passes broken up, three forced fumbles and he blocked a kick. Chubb earned ACC defensive lineman of the week after the Wolfpack posted wins against Florida State, Syracuse and Boston College.
Chubb finished second in the overall ACC player of the year. Louisville junior quarterback Lamar Jackson had 51 votes, followed by Chubb (six), and Clemson defensive linemen Clelin Ferrell and Christian Wilkins each had a vote apiece. The award winners were chosen by a vote of a select 45-member media panel and the league’s 14 head coaches.
Jackson, who has 3,489 passing yards and 1,443 rushing yards and a combined 42 touchdowns, also edged out NC State senior H-back Jaylen Samuels for ACC offensive player of the year. Samuels received one vote.
