The NC State football team hosts Virginia Tech on Thursday night, with the hope of improving to 6-2 overall and become bowl eligible.

The Hokies have been struggling this season, with a 2-5 record, coming off a 20-14 loss against Miami (Fla.).

NC State surges to the lead (10:45 p.m.)

Senior wide receiver Thayer Thomas gets a 18-yard touchdown on a flanker screen to give NC State a 22-21 lead with 7:38 left. NCSU failed on the two-point conversion.

NC State exploding on offense (10:24 p.m.)

Freshman wide receiver Terrell Timmons got a big 43-yard catch to the Virginia Tech seven-yard line. That set up a touchdown pass to a wide-open Trent Pennix. NC State went for two points, but the pass failed, and the Hokies now lead 21-16 with 12:15 left in the game.

MJ Morris snaps Wolfpack touchdown drought (10:09 p.m.)

NC State freshman quarterback MJ Morris throws a beautiful ball to Thayer Thomas for a 35-yard touchdown. Virginia Tech now leads 21-10 with 1:42 left in the third quarter.

Grant Wells gets hot (10:02 p.m.)

NC State goes with a big blitz, but quarterback Grant Wells escapes it and is credited with a 20-yard touchdown run to give Virginia Tech a 21-3 lead with 4:02 left in the third quarter.

Virginia Tech scores, part II (9:41 p.m.)

Virginia Tech quarterback Grant Wells goes up top to Kaleb Smith, who wins the hand-fighting battle and goes 85 yards for the touchdown. Virginia Tech leads NC State 14-3 with 9:18 left in the third quarter.

Hokies get rare touchdown (9:27 p.m.)

Virginia Tech quarterback Grant Wells keeps it and gets the four-yard touchdown run, and the Hokies lead 7-3 with 12:51 left in the third quarter. VT tight end Dae'Quan Wright picked up 36 yards to reach the NCSU 25-yard line, and then Wright also drew a key pass interference penalty.

Christopher Dunn makes a 35-yard field goal to give NC State a 3-0 lead with five seconds left in the second quarter. The Wolfpack took advantage of a poor Virginia Tech punt.
