Here are select quotes from UNC Asheville head coach Eddie Biedenbach following NC State's 84-75 win over the Bulldogs in the season opener for both teams Friday night at the RBC Center in Raleigh.
On having to come from behind in the second half
"It's hard being down 17 and make it up, and then keep making it up. NC State's a better team than they've been before, but we weren't mentally ready to play hard for 40 minutes. We were still playing Division II warm-up games. We thought [we were ready]. We talked like we were."
On the overall play of his team
"I have to give State credit. They did a nice job, but our veterans didn't play well, we missed open shots, and our new guys didn't play the game very well. We gave up eight steals to Lorenzo Brown in the first half. That's impossible. We'd catch ball, and boom, he'd take it from us. We didn't play very well, and we lose by single digits to an ACC school. A lot of people are satisfied with that. I felt we were good enough to win this game."
On being outrebounded by 14
"They were going to beat us on the boards, but we battled hard enough and we should have made open shots. You give up something when you have size in there, and we play as well as we should have with little guys."
