The NC State women's tennis team advanced to the NCAA Final Four Wednesday, marking the program's first-ever national semifinals appearance.
The No. 6 Wolfpack defeated No. 3 Georgia 4-2 to claim the victory in what was also the first quarterfinals appearance in program history.
NC State will now face the winner of the quarterfinals match between No. 7 Florida State and No. 2 Texas on Friday, May 21 in Orlando, Fla., at a time to be decided.
The Pack jumped out to a quick 1-0 lead by claiming the doubles point with victories from Jaeda Daniel/Adrianna Reami (6-4) and Amelia Rajecki/Abigail Rencheli (7-5).
The Bulldogs tied it up at one by earning a quick point in the No. 1 singles match. UGA's No. 4 Katrina Jokic defeated NC State's No. 6 Anna Rogers 6-2, 6-2.
Reami reclaimed the Pack's lead 2-1 when she defeated Georgia's No. 20 Meg Kowalski 6-1, 6-4, marking the highest-ranked singles win of her career.
The Wolfpack's lead was extended to 3-1 when Daniel defeated Georgia's No. 68 Morgan Coppoc 6-4, 6-4.
Georgia's Elena Kristofi narrowed the gap, making the team tally 3-2, when she defeated NC State's Lexi Keberle in straight sets 6-5, 6-2.
That left the Pack with two more opportunities to clinch the match-winning point, and Georgia had to sweep the remaining singles matches to survive and advance.
That's when NC State's No. 82 Abigail Rencheli defeated Georgia's No. 52 Marta Gonzalez in a second-set tiebreaker 6-3, 7-6, claiming the match for the Wolfpack.
