NC State football picked up its fourth verbal commitment in the 2021 class when three-star running back Caleb McDowell from Lee County High in Leesburg, Ga., pledged to the Wolfpack.
McDowell picked NC State over Power Five offers from Colorado, Indiana, Purdue and Syracuse.
Here is a commitment analysis.
1. Adding more speed
According to athlete.com, McDowell's best time in the 100-meter dash in track is 11.2 seconds. However, McDowell told The Wolfpacker he has actually been timed under 11 seconds in the sprint.
That track time came during his freshman year in high school, which was in the 82nd percentile of track times that year. His 200 meter time of 22.28 seconds was in the 95th percentile in 2018.
He also has a blistering 40-yard dash time at a Tennessee summer camp to back up the claim. He reportedly was timed at 4.42 seconds in Knoxville last year, to go with a 39-inch vertical leap.
The 2021 class is following the trend of the 2020 signees of making NC State considerably more athletic at the skill positions.
