UNC got off to a hot start, taking a 3-0 lead after the first inning, but NC State stormed back to take the lead in the third when the Pack scored four runs against ACC Player of the Year Andrew Miller. The Pack gave themselves some breathing room in the top of the fifth, adding three runs to make it 7-3 and then scored twice more in the ninth to put the game away.
Gib Hobson pitched a complete-game 10-hitter for the Wolfpack, striking out three without allowing a run in the final eight innings. Miller six inning for UNC, allowing five earned runs on six hits.
Drew Martin got the start at third base for second-team All-ACC performer Matt Mangini and came up huge, going 3-for-4 with a run scored. Right fielder Brian Aragon drove in a pair of runs to lead the Pack and first-team All-ACC player Ramon Corona was 2-for-4 with an RBI and two runs scored.
NC State, which was swept in three games by the Tar Heels in late April, will play No. 3 seed Virginia in a winners' bracket game Thursday at 4 p.m. Carolina falls into the losers' bracket and plays sixth-seeded Florida State at 10 a.m.
The Wolfpacker will have more from Jacksonville shortly.
