Mike Uremovich to coach NCSU offensive line

NC State football coach Dave Doeren announced Friday that Mike Uremovich, a former collegiate head coach, will coach the offensive line for the Wolfpack.

Uremovich spent last season as the running backs coach and special teams coordinator for Doeren at Northern Illinois.

"Mike brings experience as a head coach, an offensive coordinator, an offensive line coach and a special teams coordinator to us," said Doeren. "He is a tireless recruiter and a great family man and he is probably one of the best technicians I've been with from a run blocking and design standpoint. We're really excited about what he brings to the table offensively."

In his lone season at Northern Illinois, the Huskies finished ninth in the nation in rushing offense, averaging 250.2 yards per game, and ranked 15th in total offense. The Huskies also finished ninth nationally in scoring, with an average of 40.8 points per game — a number that included 44 rushing touchdowns.

His special teams units also enjoyed success at Northern Illinois, as the Huskies ranked fifth nationally in kickoff coverage and fourth in punt coverage.

Prior to his stint at NIU, Uremovich spent seven years (2005-11) as the head coach at the University of St. Francis in Joliet, Ill. In 2011, he led that NAIA program to its most successful season in school history, as St. Francis won a school-record 10 games and claimed its first win over an NCAA Football Championship Subdivision (FCS) team when it defeated Georgia State. The Saints advanced to the NAIA Playoffs for the first time in 24 years and captured their first playoff victory.

St. Francis also posted seven-win seasons in 2008 and 2010 and turned in a 27-19 record over his last four seasons as head coach.

Uremovich began a two-year stint as offensive coordinator at Waynesburg College in Pennsylvania in 2003. The Yellow Jacket offense flourished under Uremovich, establishing school records for rushing yards (2,315), total offense (4,579) and passing yards (2,592).

The New Lenox, Ill., native worked as a graduate assistant at NIU in 2001 and 2002 for teams that each won MAC West Division titles. Prior to his first stint at NIU, he got his start in college coaching at Benedictine University where he was the wide receivers coach and special teams coordinator for the Eagles in 2000.

"My family and I are very excited to be a part of the NC State family," said Uremovich. "Coach Doeren has a great vision for the program and I will work tirelessly to make that vision a reality. I can't wait to get started."

The Providence Catholic High graduate spent four years coaching in the high school ranks, beginning at McCutcheon High School in 1996, while he was an undergraduate at Purdue. He served as the special teams coordinator and defensive backs coach from 1996-97 before returning to Providence in 1998. He worked with the Celtics' wide receivers from 1998-99. Providence advanced to the IHSA state playoffs both years and played in the title game in 1998.

Uremovich earned his undergraduate degree in U.S. History education from Purdue in 2000 and his master's from NIU in 2003.

Uremovich and his wife, Katie, have three children.

"We are happy that Mike, his wife Katie, his daughter Ella, and sons Michael and Drew are going to be a part of the Wolfpack family," Doeren said.
