Four Star CB loves Pack, Hokies, Cavs

Just call CB Phillip Brown of Phoebus High School in Hampton, Va., Mr. Versatility. So far this season he's hauled in 17 passes for 300 yards and three touchdowns. He's also rushed for two touchdowns. On special teams he's returned two kickoffs and an eye-popping four punt returns for scores. From his CB spot he's snagged five interceptions- returning one for a TD. In all, he's scored a total of 12 touchdowns from five different positions.

On the recruiting front, the action has been just as hectic, although three schools find themselves putting distance on the rest of the pack. Brown recently commented on his top schools. NC State is still up there high on my list," said Brown. "Virginia Tech is up there and so is Virginia."

When asked if any school of those three stuck out Brown added, "as of right now, because of the way things are going and like, location, NC State is one of my favorites. They have a real good program. Coach Diaz has done a real good job recruiting me and I feel that that's the reason they're so high on my list. He's been open with me. We have a good relationship, where's it's not just him talking and me listening. It's just a good vibe talking to him."

Brown plans to make official visits to all of his favorites, starting with a trip to Blacksburg in December. "I have Virginia Tech first," said Brown. "That'll be right after the season. I know I have Virginia and Pittsburgh in January. I think Jan. 24 is when I'm going to NC State."

Another hot topic has been discussion of Brown and teammate Xavier Adibi possibly attending one lucky college as a package deal. As of right now, Brown says it hasn't been a big priority. "I'm just sort of letting Xavier do his own thing- I don't want to put any added pressure on him," said Brown. "The reason we haven't really talked about it is because we've been concentrating on the season. It would be nice to go to school with him but if not, it's a chance for us to make our own marks."

And while most high school prospects seem focused almost exclusively on playing time, Brown chooses to look more at the bigger picture. "It's not really all about playing time because if I don't get to play a lot as a freshman, I'll still be lifting weights, learning the system and learning the players," said Brown. "The relationship with the coaches will be the biggest part because you're with the coaches all day. If you don't get along with them then you'll just be miserable."

Brown is still working to improve his academics and doesn't plan to make a final decision until after all of his official visits. He is rated a four-star prospect and the No. 6 CB in the nation by Rivals.com.
