First depth chart for NC State football has been released
NC State has released its first depth chart, and most noteworthy is the announcement that both quarterbacks, Boise State graduate transfer Ryan Finley and redshirt sophomore Jalan McClendon, are both "definitely" going to play in the opener on Sept. 1 against William & Mary.
Additionally, Finley has been granted an extra year of eligibility and is now classified as a redshirt sophomore. One-time quarterback battle combatant Jakobi Meyers, a redshirt freshman, is also working at wide receiver.
At nickel, recent addition Trae Meadows, a freshman from Greensboro (N.C.) Dudley, has been classified as a “blue-shirt,” likely meaning he is on scholarship. NCSU also revealed via this story that while freshman wideout Daeshawn Stephens is not on the depth chart, he has "turned heads" and could play this fall, alongside classmate Kelvin Harmon, who opens the year No. 2 at the 'X' receiver position.
Fellow true freshmen Thaddeus Moss, a tight end/fullback who is listed behind star Jaylen Samuels, and Nick McCloud, a cornerback, are other rookies who made the depth chart. Interestingly, all of those 2016 signees mentioned did not enroll early, meaning they have made a quick impression since arriving this summer.
The Pack also had several walk-ons make the two-deep. Redshirt junior Peter Daniel is listed second at right tackle, while redshirt freshman Chandler Belk (Z) and redshirt junior Gavin Locklear (H) were listed on the depth chart at wideout. Redshirt junior middle linebacker Ford Howell and redshirt senior tight end Clark Eyers were recently put on scholarship and also made the depth chart.
