NC State will have to rebuild its defensive line after this season, and thus this is an important recruiting class at the position. The Pack added a piece to that puzzle Friday afternoon with the verbal commitment from defensive lineman Derrick Eason from Norfolk (Va.) Norview High.

The 6-foot-4, 255-pounder saw a strong rise in his stock during the spring. NC State, Maryland, North Carolina, Rutgers, Syracuse, Virginia Tech and Wake Forest all offered him during the evaluation period. Eason visited NC State for a camp on June 24, and the Pack emerged as the frontrunner at that point.

As a junior, Eason had 52 tackles, including nine for loss and three sacks, and seven quarterback hurries and was named second-team all-state for the 5-A classification.

Eason joins Davontae McCrae from Miami Northwestern as defensive line commits for NC State in the 2018 class. Overall, the Pack stands at 17 pledges in its class.

We'll have more from Eason, so stay tuned.
