Three-star defensive lineman Davontae McCrae became the latest to join NC State’s recruiting class when he verbally committed to the Wolfpack Friday evening.
McCrae, a 6-foot-4, 255-pounder being recruited by NCSU to play three-technique defensive tackle, visited NC State, Wake Forest and East Carolina in April. He also had offers from Oregon State, Tennessee, Central Florida, South Florida, Akron, FAU, FIU, Toledo, Western Kentucky and Southern Miss, among others.
He played last season at Jackson High, where his teammate, running back/corner Nakia Robinson, was a senior who signed with NC State. He transferred during the spring to play at powerhouse Northwestern High.
McCrae had previously said that he wanted to enroll early in college. He is NCSU’s 16th verbal commitment and first on the defensive line.
