The ACC Coaches' Poll was released on Monday, and NC State was listed as the preseason favorite. The Wolfpack received eight of the possible 12 first-place votes, and won with 139 points, while second-place Duke tallied three first-place votes and 130 total points.
In addition, NC State junior forward C.J. Leslie was selected as the Preseason ACC Player of the Year, while point guard Lorenzo Brown was also selected to the preseason all-conference team. The squad was rounded out by Duke's Mason Plumlee, Florida State's Michael Snaer and North Carolina's James Michael McAdoo.
NC State freshman Rodney Purvis was also selected as the Preseason ACC Rookie of the year.
This is the first year that the ACC head coaches have done a preseason poll. The media will make their preseason predictions on Wednesday during the ACC's annual Operation Basketball event in Charlotte.
"Obviously, this says a lot about the improvement of our program, but I'm well aware that it's all about how we finish, not how we're projected" coach Mark Gottfried said in a statement released by the school. "This is new territory for our players and we need to make sure we stay focused on the process of improving."
