Lee County High football coach Dean Fabrizio’s first impression of recent NC State football commitment Caleb McDowell was about what you would expect. McDowell had played at Bainbridge (Ga.) High until last year when he made the move to powerhouse Lee County.

“He was a dynamic athlete,” Fabrizio remembered thinking.

That’s not surprising. McDowell has been timed under 4.5 seconds in the 40-yard dash, but Fabrizio noted that his athleticism is not just about his speed.

“He’s got that combination where he’s got elite top-end speed, but he’s also got great body control, where he is able to control his body in space,” Fabrizio pointed out. “That’s a rare combination. A lot of times guys have one or the other, they don’t have both.”
