Although NC State has not formally announced the hire, Thomas Carr has begun work as the Wolfpack’s new director of basketball operations.
Carr was one of new NC State head coach Kevin Keatts’ three assistants at UNC Wilmington and has an extensive background with Keatts. He played for and coached alongside Keatts at Hargave Military Academy in Chatham, Va.
As a player, Carr was on the 2003-04 prep national title-winning team at Hargrave. He played college basketball at Pfeiffer, finishing second in the nation as a senior in three-pointers made. Carr reunited with Keatts as an assistant on the 2010-11 Hargrave team that went 26-1 after a year on the support staff at Chipole Junior College in Marianna, Fla.
Carr became the head coach at George Washington High in Danville, Va., the following season, winning Western District Coach of the Year honors in 2011-12, before jumping into the college ranks as an assistant at East Tennessee State in 2013-14. A year later, Keatts hired him at UNC Wilmington.
Carr and Takayo Siddle, who has been announced as an assistant coach at NC State, both played and coached with Keatts at Hargrave and were on his staff at UNCW.
