Princess Anne 5-foot-11 guard Aziaha James has gone through a whirlwind of a year, even more than most can imagine during the global pandemic that has kept much of the sports world sidelined for over two months.

On the final day of May though, she let the world in on where she plans to play her College Basketball, giving a verbal commitment to the NC State Wolfpack of the Atlantic Coast Conference. She chose them over finalists Florida, Mississippi State and Pittsburgh.

"Wolfpack Nation is a good nation to be apart of," James told us on ESPN Radio 94.1 during The 757 at 6.

"When I went on my visit I just felt this was home. You always have got to go with your instinct. They're a good, winning program. I felt like I could be apart of that and make the program even better. My whole family, my mom and me are glad to be apart of the Pack."

James is good friends with Jessica Timmons, another five-star prospect like herself out of Charlotte's North Mecklenburg High. Timmons had previously committed to NC State over Memorial Day weekend. The addition of both marks the first time ever the program has secured two five-star verbals in the same class.

"She's more of a shooter than I am and plays the '2' and I'm more a slasher," Aziaha stated in assessing their games. "We felt like we could spend the next four years making a statement to people."

Last season, James averaged 18.7 points, 8.7 rebounds, 4.7 steals and 2.1 assists per game on her way to earning Beach District Player of the Year, Region 5A Player of the Year and VHSL Class 5 State Player of the Year honors. She was named the Tidewater Girls Basketball Player of the Year for the second straight season as well. Her versatility appears to be one of the bigger assets that drew NC State to her.

"They like how I can play different positions. I don't play just one position," James noted. "I would say I play the '3' the best; to get open shots and take it to the rim easy with my length and strength."
