The state of North Carolina has six prospects ranked in the updated class of 2018 rankings, which were released Tuesday afternoon.
Four of the six are currently uncommitted, with NC State having offered two of them in the past.
High Point (N.C.) Wesleyan Christian junior power forward Jaylen Hoard remains the top-rated player in the state at No. 34, four spots lower than his previous ranking. Right behind him was Concord (N.C.) Cannon School reclassed junior forward Jairus Hamilton at No. 35. Hoard, who is originally from France, will play with the Chris Paul All-Star’s during the spring, and Hamilton has switched to the Georgia Stars, but the two will not battle each other in the Nike Elite Youth Basketball League regular season.
Star point guard Devon Dotson of Charlotte (N.C.) Providence Day checked in at No. 37, giving the state three players ranked in the top 40.
The one committed prospect in the group, North Carolina-bound junior shooting guard Coby White of Wilson (N.C.) Greenfield School, was ranked No. 70 in country. Fellow UNC commit, small forward Rechon Black, was ranked No. 59 and he is originally from Concord, but now attends Montverde (Fla.) Academy. White, Black and Hoard are part of a star-studded CP3 squad.
Rounding out the ranked played, Hoard’s teammate, junior wing Aaron Wiggins checks in at No. 116. Wiggins and Dotson will play together on Team Charlotte on the Under Armour circuit.
Monroe (N.C.) Piedmont junior small forward Hunter Tyson dropped out of the Rivals150, but will get a chance to showcase his game with CP3. Joining him on that squad are wings John Newman of Greensboro (N.C.) Day and Trey Wertz of Providence Day, who are also candidates to crack the rankings in the future.
Junior forward Joel Ntambwe is another intriguing prospect, but isn’t attending high school in North Carolina any more. He left Kernersville (N.C.) Forest Trail Academy for Believe Prep in Rock Hill, S.C.
