NC State announced Wednesday that redshirt junior tight end David J. Grinnage will bypass his final year of eligibility to enter the NFL Draft. In 13 games this fall, he ranked third on the team with 25 catches, which gained 290 yards and three touchdowns.

He did the majority of the damage in 2015 against Clemson and Florida State, hauling in seven passes during each contest for a combined 145 yards and a touchdown. He also caught a pair of scoring throws against North Carolina in the regular-season finale.

The 6-5, 265-pounder enjoyed his best campaign in 2014, when he started 11 games and played in all 13, finishing with 27 catches for 358 yards and five scores. His best showing that year came against Florida State, when he notched four catches for 87 yards. In three career games against the Seminoles, he recorded 12 catches for 162 yards (13.5-yard average).

During his Wolfpack career, the tight end finished with 67 receptions, 798 receiving yards and nine scores in 38 career games, including 25 starts.

“I would like to thank Coach Doeren, Coach Faulkner and the NC State staff for their support throughout my career,” Grinnage said in a statement released by the school. “It will be tough to leave my Wolfpack teammates but I feel that this is the right decision for me and my family at this time.”

The last NCSU player to leave with eligibility remaining for the NFL Draft was current Oakland Raiders cornerback David Amerson, who was drafted in the second round of the 2013 event by the Washington Redskins.
