Wolfpack schedule review
As NC State makes their way through the 2012 season, The Wolfpacker will take a look back each week to see how NC State's opponents have fared with their respective schedules. Here's a recap through Sept. 27 for the Pack's 2012 opponents.

Tennessee (3-1, 0-1 in SEC)
Aug. 31 at Georgia Dome in Atlanta (Tennessee 35, NC State 21)
The good: Tennessee exploded in the second half to a 47-26 home win over Akron, breaking open a 23-23 halftime tie. The Vols piled up 633 total yards, and Tyler Bray threw for 401 yards and four scores.
The bad: The fact that Tennessee was even tied at halftime with a bad Akron team is not good. Part of that was because of two big plays, a pick six and long 70-yard touchdown run. Will have to do better against a slate of four straight ranked SEC teams, three of them on the road.

The good: Connecticut's offense had one of its best games, accumulating 425 total yards, 333 coming from quarterback Chandler Whitmer in his best game throwing this year.
The bad: Connecticut lost 30-24 in a game that on paper it should have won. The defense allowed 330 total yards, but it was a defensive TD by Western Michigan that proved to be the difference.

The good: For the second straight week South Alabama played well in the second half, playing even with No. 23 Mississippi State 10-10 in the final 30 minutes.
The bad: Like they were against NCSU, the Jaguars were outclassed in a 30-10 loss.

The good: In a wild game, Miami rallied from a 36-19 third quarter deficit to defeat Georgia Tech 42-36 in overtime on the road. The Canes put up a whopping 609 total yards, including 436 passing from quarterback Stephen Morris.
The bad: Miami's defense gave up 419 total yards, including 287 on the ground, and allowed an option team to rally from 19-0 down at the end of the first quarter to that 36-19 lead in a span of a little over 15 minutes spread out between the second and third quarters.

Passing - Stephen Morris: 98 of 158 for 1,069 yards, four touchdowns, three interceptions
Rushing - Duke Johnson: 40 carries for 320 yards, four touchdowns

The good: FSU took over the game against No. 10 Clemson in the second half and rallied from a 28-14 deficit to a 49-37 victory. Quarterback EJ Manuel was sensational, throwing for 380 yards and two scores and rushing for another 102 yards. The Noles had a stunning 667 total yards.
The bad: The typically dominant defense allowed 426 total yards and had trouble containing Clemson's Tajh Boyd, who threw for 237 yards and ran for another 44.

The good: The Terps put up a game fight for most of the first half in an eventual 31-21 loss at No. 8 West Virginia. Maryland's at-times sluggish offense put up a respectable 351 total yards, including 305 passing yards from freshman QB Perry Hills who easily had his best game in a Maryland uniform.
The bad: The defense could not cover Tavon Austin who caught 13 passes for 179 yards and three touchdowns. That helped West Virginia gain 363 total yards. Maryland also gained a meager 46 rushing yards.

The good: UNC rolled to a 27-6 home win over in-state rival East Carolina. The numbers may have been more impressive than the score. UNC outgained ECU 450-233.
The bad: If ECU had a better ground game, the could have done damage to UNC. The Heels allowed ECU runners to average 6.2 yards a carry on 24 rushes when you take out the sacks.

The good: This may have been the toughest game left on the schedule.
The bad: The Cavs struggled to muster much offense, turning it over four times, and did not until 4:22 left in the game in a 27-7 loss at No. 17 Texas Christian. UVa. also allowed 438 total yards.

The good: A win is a win, and that's what Wake Forest got at home, 49-37 over Army. Receiver Michael Campanaro caught 12 of Tanner Price's 15 completions and both of his touchdown throws. Overall Wake had 517 total yards, including 296 rushing.
The bad: The defense was lit up for 506 total yards, including 429 rushing, by a team searching for its first win. Wake trailed 23-21 at halftime and led only 42-37 for most of the fourth quarter before putting the game away later.

The good: Clemson went on the road and played a highly competitive game at No. 4 FSU, at one point leading 28-14 in the third quarter. The offense moved the ball effectively against one of the most touted defenses in the country, gaining 426 total yards.
The bad: Clemson's defense has struggled some this year, and Saturday showcased that. FSU gained 667 total yards and dominated most of the second half en route to a 49-37 victory.
