Ted Kapita joins NC State's recruiting class

NC State has been busy this spring in adding depth to the men's basketball squad, and has signed a fourth member to the class of 2016.

The Wolfpack landed former Rivals.com four-star prospect Ted Kapita, who signed with Arkansas in 2015, and had verbally committed to Southern Methodist last February.

The 6-foot-8, 245-pound native of the Congo attended Florida Air Academy in Melbourne, Fla., in 2014-2015, and then Huntington (W.Va.) Prep for his senior year in 2015-2016. However, he was injured during his senior year.

After Kapita didn't quality for Arkansas, he spent his post-graduate year at DME Academy in Daytona Beach, Fla., where he averaged 12 points and seven rebounds per game. He shot 60 percent from the field and 83 percent from the free-throw line for a 31-2 squad.

Kapita unofficially visited NC State last week, and assistant coach Butch Pierre was the point man on the signing. Rivals.com ranked Kapita No. 53 in the country in the class of 2015.

"Ted is a versatile and athletic addition who plays with a high motor, is a relentless defender, and can rebound," NC State coach Mark Gottfried said in a press release. "He can also stretch defenses with his ability to knock down shots on the perimeter."

Kapita joined center Omer Yurtseven of Turkey, power forward Darius Hicks of Quitman, Miss., and point guard Markell Johnson of Cleveland, Ohio, in the Wolfpack's class of 2016.

NCSU also had two players redshirt last year — redshirt freshman point guard Dennis Smith and redshirt sophomore guard Torin Dorn — and fifth-year senior shooting guard Terry Henderson is back after playing just seven minutes in the season opener.
