NC State is bowling for the fourth straight season, and it is headed to the Longhorn State to play Arizona State in the Hyundai Sun Bowl in El Paso, Tex. The game will kick off at 3 p.m. on Dec. 29 on CBS.

The bowl announcements were made throughout the day Sunday, and News and Observer reporter Joe Giglio was the first to report that NCSU was likely bound to the Sun Bowl.

The Sun Bowl trails only the Rose Bowl in longevity. The ACC has had a tie-in to the bowl since 2010 but not with much success. Only Georgia Tech in 2012 against Southern Cal has emerged victorious in the seven games. The Pac-12 has won the last four in the series, including Stanford’s win over North Carolina last year.

Arizona State is returning to the Sun Bowl for the fourth time in 20 years. It defeated Iowa in 1997, Purdue in 2004 and Duke in 2014. This will be NC State’s first ever appearance in the game.

The Sun Devils finished this season 7-5 overall highlighted by a 13-7 home win over then-ranked No. 5 Washington on Oct. 14. It went 6-3 in the Pac-12 and finished second behind Southern Cal in the South Division, but despite that success fired six-year head coach Todd Graham after the regular season was over. Graham will still coach the bowl game.

Former NFL head coach Herm Edwards is expected to be announced Graham’s replacement next week.
