Honors/accomplishments: Honored as a Max Preps All-American … Picked by the Georgia Sportswriters Association as the Class AA Offensive Player of the Year … Named first-team All-Northeast Georgia and All-Northeast Georgia Football Player of the Year by the Athens Banner-Herald … Selected the Region 8AA Offensive Player of the Year … Helped team win Class AA state title as a senior by completing 14 of 18 passes for 188 yards and rushing 23 times for 139 yards and three scores in the championship game … Was second-team All-Area by the Banner-Herald as a junior … Also ran track.
Recruitment: Shirreffs appeared bound for an Ivy League school, even taking official visits to Yale and Dartmouth, before NC State called in the final week in January. The Pack offered Shirreffs a scholarship and quickly arranged for an official visit the weekend of Feb. 1. Shirreffs wasted no time committing while in Raleigh, pledging for the Pack on the first night of the trip.

2013 projection: The quarterback competition is wide open at NC State, but odds are that Shirreffs will redshirt.
