Letter of intent No. 6: Three-star running back Trent Pennix

Measurables:

At NC State’s summer camp prior to his junior season, was 6-foot-2, 207 pounds and ran a hand-timed 40-yard dash in 4.62 seconds … Had a 4.46-second shuttle time … Registered a 9-foot-3.5 standing broad jump and 32.4-inch vertical leap.

Stats:

• Senior: Offensively rushed 201 times for 1,247 yards and 16 touchdowns, and caught 34 passes for 397 yards and three more scores. He also contributed 15 tackles, two interceptions and three pass breakups at safety.

• Junior: Ran 167 times for 1,215 yards and 12 scores and caught 11 passes for 255 yards and two more touchdowns on offense, and had an interception on defense.

• Sophomore: Option quarterback that completed 35 of 60 passes for 357 yards and two touchdowns, and rushed 132 times for 577 yards and seven touchdowns. He also chipped in 15 tackles on defense.

• Freshman: Played on defense and made 21 tackles, two interceptions and three pass breakups.

Ratings:

• Rivals.com: Three stars, No. 37 running back in the country and No. 23 player in the state.

• 247Sports: Three stars, No. 49 running back in the country and No. 29 player in the state.

• ESPN: Three stars, No. 83 running back in the country and No. 44 player in the state.

• Two-time all-conference player.

Was favoring VT until the Pack offered in the spring.

2017 projection:

Much of next fall will be figuring out what might be the best role for Pennix on the team. He will start out at running back, but he could also theoretically play a H-back similar to Jaylen Samuels or even get a look on defense.
