Letter of intent No. 21: Three-star defensive back Tyler Baker-Williams

Measurables:

At the Nike Camp in Charlotte, he checked in at 6-foot-1, 202 pounds … Was laser-timed in the 40-yard dash at 4.80 seconds and the shuttle in 4.47 seconds … Had a 39.0-foot power ball throw and 29.7-inch vertical leap … Total rating score was 87.72 … At NCSU’s summer camp, he was hand-timed at 4.54 seconds in the 40 and had a 9-foot-4 standing broad jump.

Stats:

• Senior: Made 31 receptions for 594 yards and six touchdowns, and rushed for 276 additional yards.

• Junior: Caught 25 passes for 480 yards and six touchdowns on offense, had six interceptions (one pick-six) on defense and returned two punts for scores on special teams.

Ratings:

• Rivals.com: Three stars and No. 37 player in the state.

• 247Sports: Three stars, No. 216 wide receiver in the country and No. 46 player in the state.

• ESPN: Three stars, No. 154 wide receiver in the country and No. 26 player in the state.

• Fayetteville Observer: No. 40 player in the state.

Honors/accomplishments:

• Selected to NCPreps.com 4-A All-State team as a senior.

• Named all-conference in 2017 on both offense and defense.

• Played his first two seasons at Ravenscroft School in Raleigh before transferring to Southeast Raleigh.

• Grandson of form NFL player and Wake County sheriff John Baker.

• Also runs track and plays basketball.

Recruitment:

Had offers from mid-majors like Appalachian State, Colorado State, East Carolina and Old Dominion during the summer.

Camped at NC State in June and earned an offer after his strong performance.

Verbally committed to the Wolfpack on June 26.

• Good athlete who is a playmaker in all facets of the game.

2017 projection:

The safety position will likely be an open competition in the spring and fall, but Baker-Williams’ better chance to get on the field early is if he can quickly pick up the nickel position.
