Charlotte (N.C.) Mallard Creek lineman Grant Gibson has finished off an exciting junior season, and is ready for a big offseason in recruiting.

Gibson has been offered by NC State, West Virginia, Tennessee, Virginia Tech, Vanderbilt and Colorado State. He’ll be a popular prospect to invite for the various junior days about to occur. He also is getting interest from South Carolina, Georgia Tech, Mississippi State and Texas A&M.

Rivals.com views the 6-foot-1, 288-pounder the No. 16 overall defensive tackle in the country and No. 6 overall player in the state of North Carolina in the class of 2017. NCSU fullback/tight ends and co-special teams coordinator Eddie Faulkner has been steadily recruiting Gibson for quite some time. The Wolfpack offered in late April 2015.

“They’ve been great and I talk to them about two times a week,” Gibson said. “They are good people and they try and tell me what I need to do to become the best. That is what I like about them.”

NC State has former Mallard Creek stars such as H-back Jaylen Samuels and cornerback Vernon Grier.

“They both love the school,” Gibson said. “They’ll talk to me about that sometimes. It just seems to be a great school to come to. The football is going and all the things about the school is great.”

Gibson attended the Clemson at NC State game Oct. 31 at Carter-Finley Stadium. The Tigers won 56 -41, but the Wolfpack left a positive impression on Gibson.

“That game was crazy and so loud in there that you couldn’t hear,” Gibson said. “That was something I enjoyed about it and how the fans were involved in the game.”

Gibson was part of the Mallard Creek squad that rolled through the NCHSAA 4AA playoffs, culminating in a 49-6 victory over Greensboro (N.C.) Page at Carter-Finley Stadium.

“This was great to go out and win,” Gibson said. “That is why we work so hard the whole year. It’s a great feeling and we played our tails off the whole game. I’m so glad we won.”

Gibson played on the offensive line for Mallard Creek with fellow juniors T.J. Moore and Eric Douglas, who have also been offered by NC State.

“It helps because you would know people at the school like J-Sam,” Gibson said. “Then hopefully my friends and I will go to the same school, and all have the chance to go to the same school.”
