Friday night recap

Here is a look at how NC State commitments fared on the gridiron Friday.

• Junior commit De'Von Graves of Appomattox (Va.) County High got on the scoreboard twice, and both via defense. He had a 22-yard fumble return and 42-yard interception return for scores to help Appomattox County roll 57-6 over visiting Buckingham (Va.) High in its season opener. (Story)

• Three-star running back Erin Collins ran 15 times for 131 yards and three touchdowns (highlights below) to help Seffner (Fla.) Armwood High rally in the second half and pull away for a 36-16 win at Plant City (Fla.) High, which has four-star receiver and commit Antoine Thompson on its roster. Thompson is missing this season with a torn ACL. (Story)

• Mallard Creek defeated Butler on the road 35-20 to improve to 2-0 in a marquee showdown of Charlotte-area high school powers. Four-star defensive tackle Grant Gibson and three-star corner Jacobe Clement helped a defense that sacked Butler six times. (Story)

• Three-star quarterback Matt McKay was credited with completing 10 of 19 passes for 178 yards and two touchdowns (with one interception) and rushing 24 times for 192 yards and the game-winning score for Raleigh Wakefield High in a 34-31 home win over Holly Springs (N.C.) High.

Wakefield improved to 1-1. McKay is 21-of-39 passing for 291 yards and three scores and two interceptions. He's rushed 30 times for 199 yards and a score.

• NC State has recruited three-star Isaiah Moore to play linebacker, but he made his mark on offense for Lloyd C. Bird High in Chesterfield, Va. He caught a 57-yard touchdown pass from his fullback position in a season-opening 49-7 win at Richmond Meadowbrook. (Story)

• Three-star corner Chris Ingram and Mooresville (N.C.) High fell to 0-2 after losing 31-7 at home to Cornelius (N.C.) Hough High. Ingram had four tackles, giving him eight so far for the season. Against Hough, Ingram also returned a pair of kickoffs for a total of 50 yards. (Summary)

• Three-star receiver Emeka Emezie of Waxhaw (N.C.) Marvin Ridge HIgh was held in check by visiting Monroe (N.C.) High, making just three catches for five yards in a 23-21 loss which dropped Marvin Ridge to 0-2.

Emezie has 12 receptions for 162 yards and a score thus far.

• Three-star defensive end Xavier Lyas and Plant City (Fla.) Durant High started its season with a 17-7 loss at Tampa Hillsborough High. Lyas had seven tackles (two solo) and three quarterback hurries. (Story)

• Miami Jackson, featuring two-way performer and NCSU running back commit Nakia Robinson, lost its opener 21-13 at home in the debut of new head coach Lakatriona Brunson, the first female head football coach in the state of Florida's history. (Story)

• Playing in his first game at Palm Beach Gardens (Fla.) Dwyer High, three-star linebacker Raven Saunders helped pitch a shutout with a 40-0 win at Boynton Beach. (Story)

• Orlando Dr. Phillips High and three-star linebacker Nick Smith opened its season with a 28-7 home win over Apopka (Fla.) Wekiva High. Smith had an interception in the victory. (Story)

• Deerfield Beach (Fla.) High and three-star defensive Deslin Alexandre were upset in overtime by host Hallandale (Fla.) High 22-21 to start the season 0-1. Alexandre had four tackles (one solo). (Story)

• Three-star tight end Damien Darden and Pikeville (N.C.) C.B. Aycock fell to 1-1 with a 52-41 home loss to Snow Hill (N.C.) Greene Central. Last year, Greene Central beat them 57-0. (Story)

• Wake Forest (N.C.) High, featuring three-star linebacker commit Darius Hodge, rolled to a 56-7 win over visiting Apex (N.C.) High to improve to 2-0.

• Junior kicker commit Chris Dunn made a 25-yard field goal to help Lexington (N.C.) North Davidson improve to 2-0 after a 31-7 win over visiting Thomasville (N.C.) Ledford High. (Story)

• Junior athlete commit Nadir Thompson and Bailey (N.C.) Southern Nash rolled to a 48-0 win at Wilson (N.C.) Beddingfield High, improving to 2-0 in the process. Thompson ran four times for 11 yards. He has 10 carries for 49 yards , a 20-yard kickoff return and two pass breakups on the season. (Story)
