Friday night recap
Here is a recap of how NC State's commitments did last week on the recruiting trail.
(Note: four-star receiver Antoine Thompson and three-star defensive end Deslin Alexandre are nursing injuries, and three-star tight end Damien Darden's game was postponed because of regional flooding).
• Three-star quarterback Matt McKay unofficially completed 21 of 34 passes for 265 yards and two touchdowns and rushed 18 times for 97 yards and a score, according to stats kept by the Raleigh News and Observer, during Raleigh Wakefield’s 30-28 home loss to crosstown rival Millbrook High. (Story) Wakefield fell to 5-3.
McKay had completed 70 of 123 passes for 839 yards and nine touchdowns with seven picks and rushed 84 times for 510 yards and four scores, going into the game.
• Three-star defensive end Xavier Lyas picked up seven tackles, including two tackles for loss, and two quarterback hurries for Plant City (Fla.) Durant High in a 16-6 win road win over rival Plant City High. Durant improved to 7-1. (Story)
Lyas has 38 tackles (19 solo), including five for loss and a safety, eight quarterback hurries, a forced fumble and two fumble recoveries this season. Durant is ranked No. 10 in Florida’s 7A classification according to MaxPreps.com.
• Three-star receiver Emeka Emezie caught seven passes for 91 yards in Waxhaw (N.C.) Marvin Ridge’s 47-38 loss at Monroe (N.C.) Sun Valley High, dropping the Mavericks to 4-4.
Emezie has caught 53 passes for 724 yards and seven scores this season.
• In a battle of unbeaten, Wake Forest (N.C.) High and three-star linebacker Darius Hodge improved to 8-0 with a 26-13 win over crosstown rival Heritage High on the road. (Story)
• Mooresville (N.C.) High won its sixth straight by beating Statesville (N.C.) South Iredell 38-20 on the road, improving to 6-2. Three-star corner Chris Ingram returned a kickoff 30 yards and two punts for a total of seven yards. (Story)
Ingram has 33 tackles, seven pass breakups, an interception and a forced fumble this season. He has returned 14 punts for an average of 10.4 yards and three kickoffs for 26.7 yards.
• Four-star lineman Grant Gibson and Charlotte (N.C.) Mallard Creek had a rare home loss, falling 38-21 to crosstown rival Vance High. (Story)
Mallard Creek fell to 6-2 overall and is ranked No. 3 in the 4-A classification by MaxPreps.com.
• Three-star offensive tackle Bryson Speas and Greensboro (N.C.) Dudley remained the top-ranked 4-A team in the state by MaxPreps.com after its 42-0 home win over Graham (N.C.) Southern Alamance High.
• Seffner (Fla.) Armwood High and three-star running back Erin Collins improved to 6-1 with a 53-7 road rout of Brandon (Fla.) High. (Story) MaxPreps.com ranks Armwood No. 5 in the 6-A classification in Florida.
Collins had 55 rushes for 414 yards and eight scores and caught 14 passes for 161 yards coming into the game.
• Three-star linebacker Isaiah Moore had a sack in his return from injury during a 35-6 win for Chesterfield (Va.) L.C. Bird High at Midlothian (Va.) Cosby High. Bird, which is 6-1, is ranked No. 2 in the 5A classification according to MaxPreps.com.
• Two-star receiver Max Fisher caught four passes for 75 yards, including an 11-yard touchdown, but Washington (D.C.) Gonzaga fell 23-13 to visiting Hyattsville (Md.) DeMatha Catholic. Fisher also had a 64-yard touchdown called back with a holding penalty. (Story)
Gonzaga is 5-2 and ranked No. 7 in the Maryland/D.C. rankings by MaxPreps.com.
• Three-star athlete Nakia Robinson and Miami Jackson High snapped a four-game losing streak with a 21-20 win at Ft. Lauderdale (Fla.) Stranahan High to improve to 2-5. Robinson ran for three scores in the win.
• Palm Beach Gardens (Fla.) Dwyer High used its defense, led by three-star linebacker Raven Saunders, to roll 28-0 at home over Royal Palm Beach (Fla.) High. Dwyer is 6-1, and it has allowed a total of 10 points in its six-game winning streak. That stretch includes four shutouts.
MaxPreps.com ranks Dwyer No. 4 in Florida’s 7-A classification.
• Orlando (Fla.) Dr. Phillips and three-star linebacker Nick Smith, who added an offer from Michigan State last week, improved to 5-1 with a 38-0 home win over crosstown rival Freedom High. MaxPreps.com ranks Dr. Phillips No. 5 in the 8-A classification in Florida.
• Junior kicker Chris Dunn and Lexington (N.C.) North Davidson High fell to 5-3 after a 45-42 loss at Mocksville (N.C.) Davie County High. Dunn had made 5 of 6 field goals with a long of 47 yards and 33 of 35 extra points going into the game.
• Junior athlete De’Von Graves caught an 18-yard touchdown pass to help Appomattox (Va.) County High in a 42-13 home win over Altavista (Va.) Combined School. (Story)
Appomattox improved to 7-0 and is ranked No. 1 in the 2-A classification of Virginia by MaxPreps.com.
