NC State formally picked up a verbal commitment Sunday morning from junior college defensive tackle Val Martin of Iowa Western Community College in Council Bluffs, Iowa.

The Wolfpacker reported the news on Saturday evening.

Martin, a native of Marietta, Ga., had 49 total stops, 6.5 tackles for loss and three sacks for Iowa Western, which went 11-1. He will have three seasons to play three at NC State. Defensive line coach Kevin Patrick recruited Martin for NC State.

Martin had narrowed his choices to NC State, Washington State and FAU, and officially visited all three schools before making his decision. He was NC State’s second verbal commitment since the December signing period, joining USC transfer Cary Angeline.
