Virginia: Virginia's returning All-ACC performers Joe Harris, a senior small forward, and Akil Mitchell, a fifth-year senior power forward, have seen a dip in their production this season. Harris averaged 16.3 points per game and shot 42.5 percent from three-point range in 2012-13, while Mitchell posted 13.1 points and 8.9 rebounds per contest. Harris, who missed all but two minutes of the 62-50 win over Florida State last Saturday, is down to 10.3 points per game and was shooting just 40.0 percent from three-point land this season. Mitchell has fallen to 6.5 points and 6.1 rebounds per game this year The 6-6, 225-pound Harris scored a season-best 20 points against Hampton Nov. 26, when he made four straight three-pointers during one stretch. He has scored in single figures in six contests The 6-8, 235-pound Mitchell, who attended Charlotte Christian with redshirt sophomore power forward Anthony Gill of the Cavaliers, has played only 23.4 minutes per game this season after averaging 30.5 minutes per contest a season ago. Mitchell recorded his first double-double of the season with 11 points and 13 rebounds — totals that exceeded or matched his season highs — in the win over Florida State. He has scored in double figures in three games, and grabbed at least seven rebounds in six games Redshirt sophomore Malcolm Brogdon has played both point guard and on the wing. The 6-5, 217-pounder is averaging 9.9 points, 5.5 rebounds and 1.8 assists per game. He missed last year with a foot injury. Brogdon scored 17 points against Davidson Nov. 16 and Wisconsin-Green Bay Dec. 7. He is shooting 33.3 percent from three-point land, which is just above his career average (32.8) Freshman London Perrantes from Los Angeles has helped settle down the point guard position, allowing Brogdon to play on the wing. The 6-2, 189-pound Perrantes has started 11 of the 15 games he has played, and was averaging 4.4 points, 3.3 assists and 1.3 turnovers in 27.7 minutes per game. He is shooting 31.3 percent from three-point land and 82.8 percent from the free throw line. However, he has struggled from the field, shooting just 27.7 percent. Perrantes broke out for 14 points and three assists against FSU Three other players have made at least five starts — sophomore forward Justin Anderson, sophomore center Mike Tobey and the aforementioned Gill, who transferred in from South Carolina. Gill and Tobey have started six games, while Anderson has made five starts The athletic 6-6, 227-pound Anderson is averaging 9.9 points and 4.3 rebounds per game, while shooting 31.4 percent on three-pointers. The 6-8, 230-pound Gill is right behind him at 8.5 points and 3.9 rebounds per game, and the 6-11, 253-pound Tobey has chipped in 6.5 points and 4.5 rebounds per contest Virginia entered the Wake Forest game Wednesday in the top 15 nationally in seven defensive categories, and was limiting opponents to 3.8 fastbreak points per game. The Cavs have out-rebounded opponents in 12 of 15 games, and outscored opponents in the paint in 11 games.
