Detroit: Detroit has played five road games this season, including falling 101-55 to UConn on Nov. 14, but defeating South Florida 65-60 on Nov. 30. The Titans are coming off a 70-68 win over Rhode Island on Dec. 8 Junior small forward Juwan Howard Jr., the son of the former NBA player, had 17 points and eight rebounds against Rhode Island. Senior power forward Evan Bruinsma added 15 points and freshman shooting guard Matthew Grant added 11 off the bench. The Titans shot just 1 of 12 from three-point land in the win Howard started off his career at Western Michigan before transferring after the 2010-11 season. He averaged 7.6 points and 3.2 rebounds per game last year. He is shooting 37.4 percent from the field and 27.3 from beyond the arc, but is a blistering 86.5 at the free-throw line. He averaged 5.6 points and 4.3 rebounds per game last year The Detroit backcourt got reworked after Ray McCallum Jr. went pro a year early and was drafted in the second round by the Sacramento Kings. Then Jason Calliste, a former Winston-Salem (N.C.) Quality Education Academy product, graduated and transferred to Oregon. Michigan transfer Carlton Brundidge has settled in at point guard, and Danville, Va., freshman Jarod Williams starts at shooting guard. The latter, who played for the Richmond Squires, has scored in double figures in four games this season Rivals.com ranked Brundidge the No. 106 overall player in the country in the class of 2011. Fellow recruiting classmate Trey Burke won the starting point guard job and Brundidge left after one year to Detroit. Flora MacDonald standout Anton Wilson, who NC State heavily evaluated, comes off the bench to provide three-point shooting (40 percent). Wilson had 16 points and four three-pointers against Toledo, and had 21 points and went 4 of 5 on three-pointers in a 106-51 win over Michigan-Dearborn on Nov. 11 Grant, who played at Los Angeles Westchester, also plays in the backcourt and has cracked double figures in six games with a season-high 15 at UConn Ugochukwu Njoku, a former junior college transfer, has blocked at least two shots in five games, including five against Michigan-Dearborn. He has scored eight points in two games.
