The Wolfpacker's ACC Power Rankings

The staff of The Wolfpacker will meet once a week for the rest of the college football season to list the ACC squads from best to worst, in our collective opinion.

The results are below:

1. No. 3 Florida State (7-0, 5-0)

Last week: Beat NC State, 49-17
This week: Host No. 7 Miami - 8 p.m., ABC
Change in power ranking: None
Skinny: The Seminoles have a top-ten this week when in-state rival Miami comes to town. They're on a different level than the Hurricanes (and everybody else in the ACC), and should prove it Saturday night with the nation watching.

2. No. 9 Clemson (7-1, 5-1 ACC)

Last week: Won at Maryland, 40-27
This week: Travel to Virginia - 3:30 p.m., ESPN
Change in power ranking: None
Skinny: Clemson rebounded from their first loss of the season by going on the road and topping a beat-up Maryland team, 40-27. They are ranked behind undefeated Miami still in the national polls, but our voters hold the Tigers at No. 2.

3. No. 7 Miami (7-0, 3-0)

Last week: Beat Wake Forest, 24-21
This week: Travel to No. 3 Florida State - 8 p.m., ABC
Change in power ranking: None
Skinny: Our top three spots were all unanimous (as were the bottom three) but the Hurricanes' narrow victory over the Demon Deacons did them no favors. They have had close calls in each of their last two games and must travel to No. 3 Florida State this weekend.

T4. Georgia Tech (5-3, 4-2)

Last week: Won at Virginia, 35-25
This week: Host Pittsburgh - 7 p.m., ESPNU
Change in power ranking: Up 1 spot
Skinny: The Yellow Jackets have been up and down our pole on a weekly basis, but they've been trending up in the past two weeks. The win over Virginia put them into a tie for fourth with Duke. Our pollsters had Georgia Tech ranked anywhere from fourth to sixth.

T4. Duke (6-2, 2-2)

Last week: Won at Virginia Tech, 13-10
This week: Off
Change in power ranking: Up 4 spots
Skinny: Duke tied for our biggest mover up this week and rightfully so. Nobody gave them a chance traveling to Blacksburg against nationally ranked Virginia Tech, but the Blue Devils prevailed. It marked the school's first victory over a ranked foe since 1994 and should give the school its first ever back-to-back bowl trips.

6. Maryland (5-3, 1-3)

Last week: Lost to Clemson, 40-27
This week: Off
Change in power ranking: Up 4 spots
Skinny: How does one lose at home and move up four spots in our power rankings? Welcome to the middle of the ACC. The Terps were beat up when they faced Clemson on Saturday and the bye week comes at a good time for them.

7. Virginia Tech (6-2, 3-1)

Last week: Lost to Duke, 13-10
This week: Travel to Boston College - Noon, ABC/ESPN2
Change in power ranking: Down 3 spots
Skinny: The Hokies might be just barely on the outside looking in of the national rankings, but there's no chance you lose to Duke AT HOME and don't get punished harshly in our powering rankings. Granted, this is the ACC and they'll have plenty of chances to move back up before the season is over.

8. Wake Forest (4-4, 2-3)

Last week: Lost at No. 7 Miami, 24-21
This week: Travel to Syracuse - 12:30 p.m., RSN
Change in power ranking: Up 1 spot
Skinny: The Demon Deacons were surprisingly game on the road against Miami, but lost by three. That helped the Deacs move up, but is that really a statement on Wake or Miami?

9. Pittsburgh (4-3, 2-2)

Last week: Lost to Navy, 24-21
This week: Travel to Georgia Tech - 7 p.m., ESPNU
Change in power ranking: Down 3 spots
Skinny: Pitt's lone win in their last three contests was an 11-point win over Old Dominion. Things don't get any easier, and they might have a tough time finding two more wins on the slate.

10. Boston College (3-4, 1-3)

Last week: Lost at North Carolina, 34-10
This week: Host Virginia Tech - Noon, ABC/ESPN2
Change in power ranking: Down 3 spots
Skinny: Boston College was able to run on North Carolina Saturday, but they totaled just 59 passing yards. That's not a recipe for success, but they still found a way to rank ahead of UNC in our voters' eyes. One had BC as high as 8th, while another had the Eagles as low as No. 11.

11. North Carolina (2-5, 1-3)

Last week: Beat Boston College, 34-10
This week: Travel to NC State - 12:30 p.m., ACC Network
Change in power ranking: Up 2 spots
Skinny: The Tar Heels followed a narrow loss to Miami with a win over Boston College. That marked their first conference win of the season and they'll be looking to make it two in a row against NCSU Saturday.

12. Syracuse (3-4, 1-2)

Last week: Off
This week: Host Wake Forest - 12:30 p.m., RSN
Change in power ranking: Down 1 spot
Skinny: The Orange were stomped in their last time out against Georgia Tech. They've had two weeks to prepare for Wake Forest, will it show?

13. NC State (3-4, 0-4)

Last week: Lost at No. 3 Florida State, 49-17
This week: Host North Carolina - 12:30 p.m., ACC Network
Change in power ranking: Down 1 spot
Skinny: The Pack have lost three in a row and all four ACC tilts. They'll be down at the bottom until they pick up a conference win.

14. Virginia (2-6, 0-4)

Last week: Lost to Georgia Tech, 35-25
This week: Host No. 9 Clemson - 3:30 p.m., ESPN
Change in power ranking: None
Skinny: Not much of an explanation is needed. Virginia has lost five in a row and it doesn't get any easier with Clemson coming to town.
