NC State adds transfer Trevor Lacey

NC State has landed Alabama shooting guard transfer Trevor Lacey on Monday — who has two years of eligibility remaining — The Wolfpacker has confirmed.

Lacey officially visited NC State on May 9-11, and then later tripped to Pittsburgh to make sure of his decision. The 6-foot-4, 220-pounder, who will sit out next season per NCAA rules, has known Wolfpack coach Mark Gottfried for years. Gottfried previously coached at Alabama and Lacey's uncle Howard Pride was an administrative assistant with the Crimson Tide.

Lacey averaged 11.3 points, 3.8 rebounds and 3.2 assists per game his sophomore season for Alabama. He shot an impressive 37.3 percent from three-point land and 39.2 percent from the field for the 23-13 squad. Lacey's field-goal percentage from the field fell to 36.8 percent in SEC action.

"The facilities were the best of the best, and one of the top places I've ever been in as far as the arena [PNC Arena]," said Lacey on his official visit to NC State in a previous interview. "Coach Gottfried and I have known each other for a long time. It wasn't really so much about us talking about him, but me getting to knowing the athletic director, academic advisor, campus and the arena."

Lacey was in Huntsville, Ala., visiting family this past weekend. Lacey had hoped to officially visit Miami, but the trip fell through.

Lacey would join a group of four wings for the 2014-2015 season — Ralston Turner and Desmond Lee, who would both be seniors that year, and class of 2014 pre products Caleb Martin and Cody Martin of Mocksville, N.C.

Lacey, who played with both Each 1 Teach 1 and Atlanta Celtics his last year of traveling team ball was ranked No. 24 overall in the country and No. 6 shooting guard by Rivals.com in the class of 2011. The Huntsville Butler High standout originally picked Alabama over Auburn, Kansas, Kentucky and Connecticut.
