Battle-tested Norfolk State up next for NC State

Norfolk State might not have some of the same players that upset No. 2-seeded Missouri 86-84 in last year's NCAA Tournament, but that doesn't mean the expectations surrounding the program have changed.

Norfolk State ended up falling 84-50 to Florida in the next round of the NCAA Tournament, and lost star center Kyle O'Quinn to the NBA and Orlando Magic.

Norfolk State, fresh off of throwing a scare into undefeated No. 10-ranked Illinois — falling 64-54 to the Fighting Illini on Tuesday — continues its road warrior ways with a trip to play No. 25-ranked NC State at 7 p.m. Saturday.

The Spartans have played 11 of their first 12 games of the season on the road. Norfolk State returns Pendarvis Williams, Rob Johnson, Jamel Fuentes and A.J. Rogers, who all played double digit minutes against Florida in the NCAA Tournament. Five other players return from last year.

NC State coach Mark Gottfried talked about playing Norfolk State, the impact of first-year director of player development Larry Farmer and the need to get freshman point guard Tyler Lewis more time on the court during his weekly press conference Friday.
