Report: Brosius leaves NC State
According to a report in the Asheville Citizen-Times, NC State redshirt sophomore and backup quarterback Tyler Brosius has left the school and plans to transfer to Walters State in Tennessee to focus on baseball.
"He feels like he can take this year to decide whether he wants to play (pro) baseball or maybe he'll realize he wants to play football again (in college," Mike Brosius told the paper. ( Link to the full story.)
Brosius was expected to be the Pack's backup quarterback in 2012 and his departure will leave the Pack with a sudden question mark at depth at the position.
Colorado State transfer Pete Thomas, a two-year starter for the Rams, has to sit out this season per NCAA rules. That leaves true freshman Manny Stocker, who enrolled in the spring, and walk-on Garrett Leatham as the top candidates to back up fifth-year senior Mike Glennon.
Brosius completed 8 of 13 passes for 56 yards and a touchdown as a rookie in 2011. He played well in the spring game, connecting on 15 of 27 passes for 184 yards.
He was rated a three-star recruit and the No. 29 quarterback in the country by Rivals.com coming out of Tuscola Senior High in Waynesville, N.C., in 2010. He originally verbally committed to Virginia before switching his pledge to NC State.
