First commitment for NC State

It took a while, but NC State has its first verbal commitment in the 2013 class.

Offensive lineman Cole Blankenship from Davie County High in Mocksville, N.C., did the honors, pulling the trigger Tuesday afternoon. Blankenship confirmed the news via text message.

"Yes sir, just made my commitment," Blankenship texted.

The Wolfpacker first reported the news earlier Tuesday on the premium Wolves' Den message board.

Blankenship was a first-team all-state selection as a junior. The 6-foot-4, 280-pounder projects as an interior lineman in college. He played mainly center as a sophomore before lining up at guard with some spot duty at tackle as a junior.

He first visited NC State for junior day in January and was back in Raleigh for the spring game this past weekend. He was offered by NCSU Monday.

Blankenship reportedly has a 4.89-second 40-yard dash time. He also has a 4.5-second shuttle time and a maximum bench press of 385 pounds.

The Wolfpacker hopes to have more from Blankenship in the near future.
