Contending for Smith?

Kernersville (NC) East Forsyth offensive tackle Brandon Smith said his top five are Clemson, East Carolina, NC State, North Carolina and Vanderbilt, while Wake Forest is battling to stay in the mix at number six.

"I've always loved Clemson, but ECU offered first, so you know they're my first," Smith said. "Clemson is still in my top of course. I feel like a family at ECU and Clemson."

Smith said UNC has a family-like atmosphere.

Duke, Maryland, South Carolina, UCLA, Vanderbilt and Virginia are also showing interest. He hopes to visit the Cavaliers, Commodores, Gamecocks, Pirates, Tar Heels, Tigers and Wolfpack this spring and summer.

He added he always camps at Wake Forest, and has been receiving letters from the Demon Deacons.

"I always feel comfortable at Wake Forest," Smith said. "They [Wake's coaches] offer good tips."

The 6-foot-8, 330-pounder connects well with Wake's offensive coordinator and tight ends coach Steed Lobotzke. While Lobotzke's rapport is key with Smith it is also important for Wake Forest's offensive line Jonathan Himebauch to build a strong relationship with the in-county prospect.
