NC State head coach Dave Doeren met with the media following today's practice to talk about the depth chart and rising junior transfer quarterback Jacoby Brissett, who must sit out next fall after the move from Florida.
A full transcript of everything the coach had to say is below:
As we get closer to the spring game, is the depth chart becoming settled?
We're getting closer, I wouldn't say we're there yet, but we're definitely closer to knowing what we have. We'll probably have something after that game that is pretty solid, but there are a few positions, though, that will battle all the way into fall camp.
What are those positions?
Wide receiver, there are a lot of guys rotating around. Right now at safety, there are some guys rotating around. At linebacker, there's still some guys rotating. Those would be the biggest ones.
We should have a decent idea at quarterback by the end of the spring.
How do you handle the situation with Jacoby Brissett and trying to prepare him for the future, even though he isn't eligible this fall?
He's getting a third of the reps at times, and sometimes, he's getting a fourth of the reps. Pete Thomas and Manny Stocker obviously have to get more work than him, but we want him to get enough where he's getting better, too.
I know Coach Canada does a nice job, and the nice thing with the no-huddle, is you get a lot of plays, so you can get a lot of reps in for the guys.
What has he brought to the team in terms of competition and just having another arm out there?
Obviously, the arm helps, but it's his leadership. You can tell he wants it to be his team, even though it can't be. I think that's hard when you're in the position he is, and I think he's handled it extremely well. He's got great enthusiasm and command of the offense when he's in there. He's just pushing guys to be great.
How has he integrated himself into the team, do you think it's been pretty smooth?
Yeah, the guys have really accepted him. He fits in with a lot of these guys, and he wants to win, that's all that teammates want. They want a guy that is committed.
