NC State has learned its NCAA Tournament draw, and it is a tough one. The Pack was seeded eighth in the East Region and will tipoff against ninth-seeded Temple in Dayton, Ohio Friday. The time will likely be announced on Monday.
NC State (24-10) last faced Temple in 2003 when the Owls won their first ever game against the Pack. NCSU is 6-1 all-time against Temple.
Temple (23-9) went 11-5 in the Atlantic 10 but ended the season strong, winning their last seven in the regular season before falling to Massachusetts in their first game in the conference tournament.
Massachusetts is one of two common opponents between NC State and Temple. The Owls lost 90-67 to Duke Dec. 8, won at Massachusetts 83-82 Feb. 16 and then lost the rematch with the Minutemen two days ago 79-74.
NC State split a pair of games with Duke, winning at home 84-76 and losing on the road 98-85. State knocked off Massachusetts 94-76 in Puerto Rico Nov. 16.
The winner of the NC State/Temple showdown will likely face top-seeded Indiana Sunday. The Hoosiers will play Friday against the winner of a contest between LIU Brooklyn/James Madison. If the Pack and Indiana advance, it would be a rematch of a game last year between the two squads when IU rallied past NCSU 86-75 in Raleigh as part of the ACC/Big 10 Challenge.
