February 8, 2013 NC State baseball opens their season next Friday, when they host Appalachian State at 3 p.m. in Raleigh. Longtime coach Elliott Avent and his squad, led by preseason All-American sophomores Carlos Rodon and Trea Turner, were tabbed as the ACC favorite in a vote of the conference coaches and open the season with their highest ranking ever in the preseason polls. The Wolfpack are ranked eighth nationally by Baseball America, while they check in at No. 9, according to Perfect Game USA, and No. 11 according to the USA Today coaches' rankings and Collegiate Baseball Newspaper's poll. Avent and several players met with the media on Friday afternoon. Full audio and video of what the coach had to say can be found below, while The Wolfpacker will have more from the players next week.
