September 1, 2011The 2011 high school football season has started for many Wolfpack recruits, and for some they have already played a couple of games. Here's an update on how the future Wolfpackers have done so far.
Quarterback James Summers has helped Page High in Greensboro, N.C., get off to a strong start. Summers ran 15 times for 231 yards and two scores, and completed 6 of 11 passes for 84 yards with two touchdowns in a 41-7 rout at Davie County in Mocksville, N.C., in the season opener Aug. 19. Davie County reached the 4-A state title game in 2010. Summers was named the 4-A NCPreps.com Player of the Week for his effort.
On Aug. 26, Summers completed 2 of 7 passes for 68 yards with a touchdown and two interceptions, and ran 13 times for 110 yards and two scores in a 35-14 win over rival Northern Guilford, the defending 3-AA state title winner.
For the season, Summers has completed 8 of 18 passes for 152 yards with three touchdowns and ran 28 times for 441 yards and four scores.
Safety Josh Sessoms of Southern Nash High in Bailey, N.C., helped his team score a pair of lopsided wins to start the season. Sessoms had three solo tackles, three assists and a pass defended in a 43-0 win over Southwest Edgecombe from Pinetops, N.C., Aug. 19.
He had four solo hits, three assists and a 28-yard touchdown reception in a 56-28 win over Beddingfield High from Wilson, N.C., Aug. 25.
For the season, Sessoms has 13 tackles (seven solo) and one pass defended on defense, and the one scoring reception on offense.
Jack Britt High in Fayetteville, N.C., fell 21-14 at Lumberton (N.C.) High Aug. 25, but not because of linebacker Majid Salahuddin. He had 16 tackles in the loss, including a sack.
Salahuddin had seven tackles in a 28-14 win at Pinecrest High in Southern Pines, N.C., Aug. 19. For the season, he has 23 tackles and a sack.
Defensive end Joe Wright from Rose High in Greenville, N.C., had a sack in a 24-14 season-opening loss at Havelock (N.C.) High Aug. 19. Rose rebounded with a 28-27 win at rival Conley High Aug. 25.
Defensive tackle K'Hadree Hooker from South Lenoir High in Deep Run, N.C., had a tackle for a loss in a 42-0 home defeat to Kinston (N.C.) High Aug. 25. South Lenoir had started the season with a 33-7 win at Spring Creek High from Seven Springs, N.C., Aug. 19.
Offensive lineman Eddie Gordon and Boiling Springs (S.C.) High have not gotten off to a good start. They lost 47-0 at Gaffney (S.C.) High Aug. 19 and suffered a 35-0 defeat at home to Greenwood (S.C.) High a week later.
Receiver Charlie Hegedus caught two passes for 21 yards, and cornerback Niles Clark had four tackles (three solo) and three pass breakups for Lassiter High in Marietta, Ga., in a surprising 14-6 win over Brookwood High from Snellville, Ga. The game was played in the Georgia Dome in Atlanta Aug. 20 as part of the Corky Kell Classic. Brookwood was the defending Class AAAAA state champs.
Lassiter High did not play last week.
