Wide receiver Marquez Valdes saw his recruitment take off in December, ironically benefiting from a slate of coaching changes. He picked up offers from NC State, Kentucky, South Florida, Cincinnati and Arkansas, all of whom had new coaches. Minnesota also got into the fray.

NC State though was able to secure the first official visit for Valdes in January. He had taken earlier trips to Houston and Toledo. Valdes visited NCSU the weekend of Jan. 11, a trip highlighted by a thrilling basketball win over then-undefeated and No. 1 Duke.
